Up to 80% of people will experience significant low back pain at some point in their lives. This back pain is typically associated with muscle spasm. It can happen only briefly, but the pain can return if not properly treated.
The causes of low back pain include muscle strain, ligament sprain, poor posture, age, bulging discs, bladder/kidney infection, endometriosis, cancer, or ovarian problems.
Treatment includes rest, ice, anti-inflammatory medication, early exercise with the onset of low back pain, and proper positioning while you sleep. In order to prevent low back pain from coming back begin a strengthening program once the severity of the pain has decreased. Focus on proper posture with a neutral spine, and always practice proper lifting and body mechanics.
