The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body; therefore, it is more susceptible to injury.
The shoulder is a ball-and-socket joint to allow more a large range of motion. The joint is surrounded by the rotator cuff, which is comprised of four muscles. That group controls movement and holds the joint together. Shoulder pain often occurs with arthritis, over exertion, or even neck problems.
Treatment includes strengthening and flexibility exercises, rest, posture control, reducing strain during activity, and anti-inflammatory medication. Exercises should encourage strengthening of the entire rotator cuff group and even surrounding musculature from the neck to the back and core.
