Healthy sleep habits are an important aspect of maintaining good overall health. Inadequate amounts of sleep can lead to increased stress hormones, high blood pressure, weight gain, and lower brain function.
The heart is healthier with a good night’s sleep. Blood pressure is lower which decreases the risk for heart attack and strokes. Stress hormones are lower to help lower the risk for heart problems, cancer, and diabetes. The regulatory hormones for appetite are disrupted by lack of sleep, so weight gain is more likely.
Proper sleep improves memory, cognitive function, mood, and makes one more productive. It is time for the body to repair itself from stress, UV rays, and other harmful exposures. One major benefit is balance of hormone production which is connected to weight gain, stress, and heart health.
